Proverb

We have many Japanese proverbs, and I know the meaning of those proverbs. But I’m not sure how often I use such a proverb in usual conversation. Once per several weeks? Once a month?
Situation seems to be similar here. There are many English proverbs. But I don’t want to memorize them, as I’m not sure whether these proverbs are actively used in conversation. When I asked Matt about useful proverb which is used in academic situation, he managed to recall one proverb ”A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush” after long consideration.

Nick, who is good surfer, taught me local Hawaiian proverb, “Long paddles for the short ride”. It’s easy to memorize, and useful one. But I hope that I don’t use this proverb after my surveys and experiment….. He also suggested other two ones soon, ”When the cat is away, the mice will play”, ”Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched.” Actually these ones are also useful ones. Heather told me ”Hindsight is 20/20” as her favorite words. When I heard this words from her at first time, I misheard ”Hindsight is Tony Tony”. What’s Tony? Comedian? Native English speakers might not understand why I was not able to distinguish these two words. Native pronunciation of "twenty" is a little bit different from Japanese one. But I believe these experiences will gradually improve my hearing skills.
I’m writing one paper about an experiment using a macroalgae “Padina australis” right now. It is very laborious process, because I found many things which were not conducted in ideal manner, and some missed samples for chemical analyses. Oh, hindsight is 20/20!
