When you think about Marine Lab in UH, you would first think about Hawaii’s Institute of Marine Biology at Coconut Island (http://www.hawaii.edu/HIMB/). But we also have Kewalo Marine Lab（http://www.kewalo.hawaii.edu/）close to Magic island, 10 minutes bike from Waikiki. As you can see on top page of web site, it locates at really nice place!! Today I went there by Jon’s truck. One side of the wall at his office is glass, most of the wall is transparent! Then whenever he turns round to left, it’s ocean. I really envy his environment for studying. UH manoa looks prison, after I took a look at this place. (but if UH manoa was prison, Ocean Research Inst., Univ. of Tokyo would be hell.)
This time, I visited this lab to take a look at some facilities, especially flow-through tanks to conduct some pre-incubations of my algae. Jon’s PI is Dr. Richmond, who was chief organizer of 8th International Coral Reef Symposium held at Guam in 1996. I’m looking forward to seeing and taking with him.
